I recently completed this patio and backyard design for a Washington Park family that was ready for new furniture and accessories and a fresh, modern look. After completing a rear addition to their new house, this family wanted to to make sure they could make the most of Denver’s beautiful summer weather with a new, improved patio furniture design. Their goal was ready to turn their backyard mudpit into a functional, fun space for entertaining and relaxing. First the backyard received a new hardscape of a poured concrete patio and retaining wall. Then it was time for the fun details. Their design and furniture requests included a large dining area, a seating/lounge area with a firepit, and modern accessories. The client asked for neutral pieces with bright accents, and she wanted to include an outdoor rug and modern planters with stands. She also wanted to incorporate two existing gray steel chairs.
We both liked the Applaro table from Ikea, and I immediately thought of this image of Sarah Sherman Samuel’s cabin (above). (I have the square version of the Applaro table and can attest that it’s a pretty sturdy table for a great price.) I ultimately came up with two design plan options, though most of the furniture and accessories could be mixed and matched between the two. With its graphic black and white elements and clean-lined furniture, this patio and entertaining space is sure to enliven this Denver home. Can’t wait to see it all installed in the spring!
Like what you see? If your patio or backyard is ready for a transformation, let’s talk.
